Skills Sessions

Divisions

There are three sessions to meet different levels of skill. The divisions are Advanced, Intermediate and Recreational:

Advanced
1:00 pm - 3:30 pm
cut-off: 12:45 pm or 54 players

Intermediate
3:45 pm - 6:15 pm
cut-off: 3:30 pm or 54 players

Recreational
6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
cut-off: 6:15 pm or 63 players

Advanced

The advanced session is highly competitive and focuses on running varied offenses, such as 1s and shoots. In order to play at this level, players must be able to play in a 5-1 formation, consistently pass hard-driven balls, as well as effectively block and hit. All USAV rules are strictly observed.

Intermediate

The intermediate session is also competitive, although not as much as the advanced session. Players at this level, generally hit well, but may have some difficulty with passing. In order to play at this level, players need to have a basic knowledge of 6-2, and moderate passing and hitting ability. Carriers, lifts, and doubles are observed in accordance with USAV rules. All other USAV rules are observed with some flexibility.

Recreational

The recreational session is for individuals who have never played volleyball or are just beginning. There are no requirements in order to play at this level. Line and net faults are enforced, as well as any other safety-related rules. Carries, lifts, and doubles are ignored.

Advanced and Intermediate Tryouts

The advanced and intermediate sessions require new players to either try out or be observed during play. Criteria for play in Intermediate and Advanced leagues can be found in the Ratings Form. This is usually done the first day that players are at volleyball. If interested in either one of these sessions, just show up at the time listed above and speak with the person in charge of sign-in.

Skills Clinics

CBVA also offers clinics every month for the three divisions. Clinics are generally offered on a separate court that does not interfere with pick-up play. The cost of attending clinics is $10. If players attend a clinic and play in their regular pick-up play session the same day, that session is only $3.

Insurance

CBVA requires all members to buy insurance through the league ($10). You will not be permitted to play without CBVA insurance.

Membership Fee

There is an annual $10 CBVA membership fee, which is primarily used to pay for the gymnasium, but also goes towards sponsoring social events and equipment costs for the league. Each session costs $7 per person. The second session on the same day is $3.
